I gave a lecture over the weekend, "Playing Mr. Darcy: From Archery to Wet Shirts," at the Chawton House Library, as part of its day-long celebration of the 20th anniversary of the 1995 BBC Pride and Prejudice series. The event featured scholars and actors and crew, including those who played Mr. Bingley (Crispin Bonham-Carter), Jane Bennet (Susannah Harker), and Mr. Bennet (Benjamin Whitrow), among others, along with the director, Simon Langton. The Chawton House Library released a podcast documenting the event, which includes a couple of minutes of conversation with me. What an incredible day!

It was a wonderful day Devoney. My husband and I enjoyed your talk very much. It was full of fascinating facts that I had no idea existed, especially from the 1940 film version. Thank you for sharing. Martine

Thanks for this feedback, Martine! What a great event that was at Chawton. So glad to have been a part of it. I published a short bit from this talk in The Independent, if you'd like to take a look: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/books/features/mr-darcy-through-the-ages-in-early-portrayals-of-jane-austens-hero-he-wasnt-always-quite-so-hot-a6692781.html
