Heavens to Darcy x2! Celebrating the New York Times's mention of my forthcoming book, The Making of Jane Austen, in the March 25th Arts Section, p. C6. As if that weren't happiness enough, the New York Times Book Review's podcast's Jenny Schuessler gives the book a shout-out and thumbs up in the 24 March podcast, from the 41-44 min. mark. It's a great year to be a Janeite and a Jane Austen scholar.
I have an essay published today in The Chronicle of Higher Education, "Why I Teach Online." I hope faculty colleagues who are skeptical of online education will reconsider their positions on the value of this pedagogical mode.
It goes way beyond Jane Austen and Mary Shelley. I'm happy to shine a spotlight on women's writing in the Romantic period, in Cambridge University Press's blog series, FifteenEightyFour, to celebrate International Women's Day: http://www.cambridgeblog.org/…/international-womens-day-sp…/
