The Latest. |
It was a lovely July 18th, but I was so nervous about delivering my Jane Austen talk that I forgot it was the 248th anniversary of Jane Austen's death. Oops. I feel so privileged to have been able to spend that day with colleagues at the British Association for Romantic Studies in Cardiff University, thanks to the work of Anthony Mandal, Jane Moore, and Gillian Dow, among others. It was a vibrant weekend of nearly 250 presenters, and the intellectual exchange was exceptionally rich. Truly grateful to have been a part of it.
The acronym "BARS" may still make me want to titter and tipple, but how can you not have complete reverence for this gorgeous conference poster? I'm so looking forward to the scholarly exchange at this conference next week.
I'm reading my just-arrived copy of Jen Chaney's As If! The Oral History of Clueless as Told By the Cast and Crew, hopefully not sporadically! It's thrilling that Jen included a few of my quotes in there, along with those of fellow Jane Austen scholars and feminist critics. This book's arrival also proved a great excuse for some Clueless selfie cosplay. (How can I get my job description as Jane Austen teacher-scholar updated to include Clueless selfie cosplay?)
